  40. ExtraDOS Toolbox is a compilation of tools useful to Microsoft DOS
  41. users.  I originally wrote the first version of ExtraDOS under MS-DOS
  42. because I found a need for them and there were no commercially
  43. available products that provided these functions.  Some ExtraDOS tools
  44. were designed to enhance programs already found in MS-DOS.  Other
  45. tools were familiar to the Unix world, but were not available in
  46. MS-DOS.  Over the years this collection has grown into large group of
  47. very useful tools.  Some of these utilities are duplicates of those
  48. found elsewhere, but often provide much better features or reduced
  49. memory overhead than similar utilities found elsewhere.  In addition,
  50. ExtraDOS complements PC-Tools and Norton Utilities with added tools
  51. these programs do not provide.

  53. Over thirty of the ExtraDOS Toolbox utilities have been selected by
  54. Paul Somerson, former Executive Editor of PC Magazine, for Bantam
  55. Books', DOS Power Tools, 2nd Edition, Revised and Expanded for DOS
  56. 5.0.  Many of the ExtraDOS Toolbox utilities are now appearing in many
  57. popular DOS books that feature shareware enhancements for DOS.

  101.   Upon notification of defects in material or workmanship,
  102.   within the warranty period of 45 days from the date of purchase,
  103.   Foley Hi-Tech Systems will, at its option, replace the defective
  104.   diskette or refund the license fee. If you need to return a product,
  105.   call the Foley Hi-Tech Systems Technical Support Service Department
  106.   to obtain a return authorization number. The remedy for breach of
  107.   this warranty shall be limited to replacement or refund and shall
  108.   not encompass any other damages, including but not limited to loss
  109.   of profit, and special, incidental, consequential, or other similar
  110.   claims.

  143.   ALARMCLK provides multiple alarm clocks and gong/chime function
  144.   into a single program.

  146.   Four alarms are available.  The music for each is fully
  147.   configurable. The program MAKETUNE.EXE is provided to create
  148.   new music files.

  169.     r       time is relative to the current time, e.g.
  170.             /Sr1=00:05 sets the alarm 5 minutes from now.

  175.             is set.

  177.     hh:mm   Time of the alarm in 24 hour format.  If a 'r' was specified then

  181.   /A#±    Enable or disable alarms, '#' is the alarm number or * to suspend
  182.           all alarms.  + enables the alarm - disables the alarm.

  184.   /D#     Delete an alarm, '#' is the alarm number or * to delete all alarms.

  186.   /U      Unload AlarmClk from memory, if possible.

  188.   /M      Use monochrome attributes.  Oddball systems (especially laptops may
  189.           fool AlarmClk into using color on a monochrome system.  Use this
  190.           switch to force black and white mode.

  192.   /V±     Enable or disable snow supression.  If you have an old style CGA
  193.           monitor (are these still around?) you may need to use /V+ to supress
  194.           video snow.

  196.   /Cn     Freqency of chiming. Where n=
  197.             1, hourly
  198.             2, half hour
  199.             4, quarter hour
  200.  
  201.   /G±     Enable or disable hour gonging.  When enabled, the hour will be
  202.           'gonged', e.g. 10 gongs at 10 o'clock.

  204.   /NOH    Supress display of the header.  Registered version only.

  207. To specify the music to play for each alarm modify the file ALARMCLK.CFG.
  208. The file must contain four files, one to a line, with no blank lines. The
  209. first filename is the music file for alarm 1, the second for alarm 2, and
  210. so on. The extension .ACF is used if not specified. ALARMCLK.CFG and all
  211. speficied music files must be in the current directory when ALARMCLK is
  212. initially installed.

  221.   MAKETUNE is a small utility that will allow you to make tunes that can be
  222.   used in the ALARMCLK utility.

  227.   MAKETUNE [/P] filename[.ext]

  230.   /P    indicates to play the tune after compiling it. You can press ESC to
  231.         halt the playback. If the filename extension is omitted ".TUN" will
  232.         be used. The output file will have the same name with the extension
  233.         of ".ACF".

  239.   frequency duration [intr]

  242.   FREQUENCY is the self explanitory. It is the frequency of the note to
  243.   play. If you wish to have a rest you can specify SILENCE as the
  244.   frequency.

  246.   DURATION is the length of the note in clock ticks (can be modified by the
  247.   TEMPO command, see below).
  248.  
  249.   INTRA is the the amount of rest (in ticks) between notes. If omitted the
  250.   default of 1 will be used or the value set by the INTRA command (see
  251.   below).

  254. SPECIAL COMMANDS
  255.  
  256.     REPEAT n
  257.  
  258.         Sets the number of times the tune is played by ALARMCLK.
  259.         If not specified the default of 1 will be used.  You
  260.         should only use this command once.

  262.     TEMPO n
  263.  
  264.         Adjusts the tempo of the tune.  The "duration" will be
  265.         multiplied by this integer.  For example, if the tempo is
  266.         set to 4 then all durations from that point on will be
  267.         multiplied by four.  The default tempo is 1.  You may use
  268.         this command as often as you wish.

  270.     INTRA n

  272.         Sets the default intranote rest for notes that do not
  273.         specify it.  The default, if this command is omitted, is
  274.         1.  You may use this command as often as you wish.

  294.   Often we get calls from people asking questions that can be
  295.   solved easily by checking through the manual before calling tech
  296.   support. We ask that you browse the manual and look for information
  297.   pertaining to your particular problem before calling. This can often
  298.   save you time, as we take a collection of our most common questions
  299.   and try to address them in this manual.

  301.   We offer alternative methods besides the conventional phone
  302.   support, such as a multi-line 24-hour BBS system. We also monitor
  303.   most technical conferences in the BBS Interlink and RelayNet
  304.   networks as well as many conferences on the CompuServe
  305.   Information System. You may send messages and questions via any of
  306.   these services.

  309.   from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. There is a chance,

  330.   This collection of utilities started out as a small set of home
  331.   grown tools that I just could not stand to live without.  Many times
  332.   someone would see me using them and ask for a copy.  This was a big
  333.   mistake.  All of the sudden I had to debug my code.  Someone would
  334.   call me up and remind me of some problem with a utility that I had
  335.   written or asked me to just add this one little feature.  Six years
  336.   later the package has evolved to its current state.  Along the way I
